Flory exponents from a self-consistent renormalization group

چکیده
The wandering exponent u for an isotropic polymer is predicted remarkably well by a simple argument due to Flory. By considering oriented polymers living in a oneparameter farniy of background tangent fields, we are able to relate the wandering exponent to the exponent in the background field through an e-expansion. We then choose the background field to have the same correlations as the individual polymer, thus self-consistently solving for u. We find u = 3/(d + 2) for d < 4 and u = 1/2 for d > 4, which is exactly the Flory result.

We study the tubular phase of self-avoiding anisotropic membranes. We discuss the renormalizability of the model Hamiltonian describing this phase and derive from a renor-malization group equation some general scaling relations for the exponents of the model. We show how particular choices of renormalization factors reproduce the Gaussian result, the Flory theory and the Gaussian Variational tr...

We analyze the tubular phase of self-avoiding anisotropic crystalline membranes. A careful analysis using renormalization group arguments together with symmetry requirements motivates the simplest form of the large-distance free energy describing fluctuations of tubular configurations. The non-self-avoiding limit of the model is shown to be exactly solvable. For the full self-avoiding model we ...
متن کاملHigh-precision determination of the critical exponent γ for self-avoiding walks
We compute the exponent γ for self-avoiding walks in three dimensions. We get γ = 1.1575 ± 0.0006 in agreement with renormalization-group predictions. Earlier Monte Carlo and exact-enumeration determinations are now seen to be biased by corrections to scaling. The self-avoiding walk (SAW) is a well-known lattice model of a polymer molecule in a good solvent; moreover, because of its semplicity,...
متن کاملIsing exponents from the functional renormalization group
We study the 3d Ising universality class using the functional renormalization group. With the help of background fields and a derivative expansion up to fourth order we compute the leading index, the subleading symmetric and antisymmetric corrections to scaling, the anomalous dimension, the scaling solution, and the eigenperturbations at criticality. We also study the cross correlations of scal...
